confetti system

so for a long time i was in love with the confetti system. its cool to see them branch out and add things to their signature garlands. i felt a bit bad diying this but hey no one can always shell out the moola for a confetti system.  im not sure why but i cant see anything on their website. theyve done stuff for weddings of course, jcrew and others
materials:
1. sheets of tissure paper
2. sheets of metallic tissue paper
3. scissors
4. rope
i was lazy and would try to cut the whole pack of tissue paper at once. its probably not a good idea if you like precision. i cut slits that reached over the halfway mark, one inch apart
then you take two pieces of the tissue paper and lay them so that the uncut part overlaps
next i would loosely roll the paper up, careful the tassel part can get tangled.
then the fun and tiring part begins. twisting! make an opening wide enough to fit your rope through. its hard to explain but once you start twisting you will get the gist. you basically have to twist the two ends one way and twist the ends individually the opposite way. this helps the tassle stay together without glue or adhesive.
and then voila! one tassle for the garland.
when you complete the tassles you can then arrange them in any color scheme you like. string them onto the rope and hang!
finished product pictures next time!

pom pom wreath

i actually never really liked the color of pom poms that i made. for several reasons:
1. they dont match with each other, colorwise
2. the yarn i used didnt help the pom pom look fluffy
3. they werent all the same size and density
so i was actually just using them to top presents when i was done wrapping. since the felt balls only filled one wreath, i had one left over and i took out my pom poms and tied them all around the wreath.

felted ball wreath

so i finally got around to making something out of the felt balls that i have. i thought i might have enough for two wreaths but i could only fill one! the felt balls are labor intensive so i wanted to reuse the felt balls after the wreath for a garland so i didnt want to hot glue them. i bought some pins and pinned them to the styrofoam. they are definitely not secure though and have a tendency to fall off. project fail! =[ if you are willing to part with the felt balls, just hot glue them. that will make the wreath a whole lot sturdier and suitable for hanging anywhere.
i bought the styrofoam wreaths at michaels as well as the pins. i basically tied some raffia ribbon around the wreath and then i just pinned away. trying to fill all the empty spaces. my felt balls are not all round and the same size. you can also sort of see the styrofoam in spots.

candyland girls

halloween came and went just like that. we actually didnt really dress up or do anything yesterday. i was too lazy to even get kodys costume out of storage. we did dress up on saturday for a party. we were the candyland girls from katy perry's california girls video. there are actually a lot of great costumes in the video but we chose this scene.

i took about a day to make all the peppermints, cupcakes, strawberries and candy dots. i used a lot of felt and quickly sewed each together. we then took a bit of time together to sew the sweets onto a bikini top. we each wore some shorts and voila!i bought some jean shorts from forever for $10 then bought some glitter fabric pant and fabric glitter. it says its washable but after the wash, most of the glitter fell off =[ my cupcake frosting is made of pink tulle. for the cherries i just made small pom poms.

plants galore!

another thing that has been keeping me a bit busy is tending to these plants that i have. i have to admit they are a bit much for our space but i love seeing them flourish. not so much when they die. i have two big potted dahlia plants that yield the biggest blooms ever! also some cactuses and terrariums. if you look closely at the terrariums you will notice that they were the old ones. some of them died and i had to replant them. i also overcrowded one so i had to move the plants into pots then make a new terrarium.

i also have other plants not pictured. one of which is called a hanging jew. yes that is what its called. its a really easy plant. my friend literally plucked a stem off and gave it to me. now its huge! pictures next time.

felted ball garland

sorry ive been away for so long. i dont know who im apologizing to since i dont think anyone reads this thing anyways haha. its been a busy couple of months and i havet been doing as many crafts as usual. I was working on a felted ball garland. but progress has been slow to say the least. i needle felt the balls then throw them in the washing machine for some quick machine felting. they come out extremely lopsided and i actually havent had any patience to correct them and make them more round. they resemble little beans. maybe mine should be call felted bean garland

yarn word

i also made some yarn pom poms to match with the yarn word. here they are hung up in the hotel room.

mini bunting

i made mini bunting with washi tape. it was pretty simple. just fold over the twine and cut. you can make the end pointy etc. i then pasted the bunting onto a card.

cupcake toppers

here are the cupcake toppers in action!

goodie bags

so the little felt petals that i made went on goodie bags for a bachelorette party. they attached a itinerary for the weekend as well as a label that says vegas survival kit. i got the free printable from here and ended up using this font.

felt bouquet

ever since i got this felt bouquet adorning one of my gifts years ago, ive always wanted to make one. those anthropologie people are so crafty!so i actually bought this circle puncher but it didnt punch through the felt sheet correctly. i used coral, orange, red and yellow because those are the bride's wedding colors. i cut the circles by hand then i cut two slits in the middle. then i took a ribbon and strung it through the slits, alternating which way the "petals" faced. Pretty simple, but the effect is pretty nice

yarn wire words

i saw this tutorial and tried my own. boy was it tiring. next time, shorter words and thicker yarn. this 7 letter word took me about 3 hours to wrap completely and it still has uneven spots. i didnt use wire reinforced clothesline. instead, i bought some thick floral wire from michaels. there were some spots like the loop in the Y that i had to go back to with another piece of yarn. i guess i couldve just continued wrapping but that wouldve made for some really uneven spots. i was going to do the word bachelorette but im just so tired from this word. haha

cupcake toppers

i make some cupcake toppers for an upcoming bachelorette with some washi tape i just folded the tape over a toothpick and cut. voila! there were some where i messed up and the tape crinkled. but oh well. i then went over and accented them with the other colors of tape.

plants

i havent been crafting that much lately. i do have a japanese masking tape/washi tape project i want to do but havent gotten around to yet. surprisingly, ive been planting a lot of plants. the terrariums i started are kinda weak. i think its because i didnt put activated charcoal at the bottom to kill mold and dirty stuff.

i planted some more cacti, some herbs, and peonies!
hopefully they all live and thrive since im not known to have a green thumb
